"Gutemberg Operation"
In
a short prologue, Yellow Kid introduces himself to the other fictional
characters, all
crammed
at the back of the stage, who hail him and ask him to tell a story.
His
adventure begins: in a remote future, the whole Known Universe is dominated by
the
usual baddy, Galadrion, a powerful and cruel emperor. The action starts with
Kidhelping a group
of rebels escape from imperial troops. In doing so, he immediately
reveals his
further peculiarity: Yellow Kid does not merely content himself with telling
his stories, he
physically plunges into them and becomes one of their main characters.
In the meantime,
the rebels tell Yellow Kid that the only way to escape being trapped
by Galadrion is
finding the first press in the history of humankind, i.e. Gutenberg’s
press. At this
point of the story, two champions of the weak, Hercules and Robin
Hood, step in to
defend the oppressed people. With the assistance from these
characters and
Yellow Kid himself, the sought-after press is found and the cruel and
wicked emperor is
finally defeated and divested of his prestige and authority.
When Kid shifts
back to the storyteller role – as part of his reverse role play – he will
discover that
neither Hercules nor Robin Hood actually recall the adventure they have
just gone through:
he is the only interface between fiction and the real world, which
makes him a very
special imaginary character…
